What Should Be Considered In The Preparation Process For Prominent Ear Surgery?
In prominent ear surgery, if our patient is a child, we generally recommend that they have this procedure done during the semester break or 3-month summer vacation. The reason for this is that the hair band to be worn after the operation is likely to be removed while at school, and the hair band should remain for about 2-3 weeks. If additional foods, vitamins or drugs known to have blood thinning effects are used, apart from the time adjustment, the use of these drugs should be interrupted 10 days before the operation, with the knowledge of the doctor who prescribed these drugs, in this period.
In this process, we ask our adult patients to stop smoking about 10 days before the surgery, if they are smoking.
Prominent Ear Aesthetic Surgery Day
On the day of surgery, our patients should come to the hospital with an 8-hour fast. The purpose of prominent ear surgery, which starts with the intervention behind the auricle; It is to remove the deformation in the ear by bringing the angle of the ear closer to the head. In the operation, the cartilage part is reshaped. In case of need, the auricle is folded to a certain extent in order not to compromise its natural appearance, and then the operation is completed with a stitch to be made behind the ear. Although it is a very comfortable procedure, the operation is completed in an average of 45 minutes – 1 hour. While the surgery is being completed, small dressing bands are placed on the operation areas. These bands can be removed the next day of the operation. In addition, we wear a special headband similar to a tennis player’s headband for our patients. In this way, it is easier to protect the newly operated ear area and the ears are supported while they regain their new form. This headband must be worn for 1 month.
Things To Consider During The Prominent Ear Surgery Recovery Period
After prominent ear surgery, which is a comfortable operation with effective results, there are basic issues that our patients should pay attention to. In prominent ear surgery, there is no suture removal, self-dissolving sutures are used. The first control is done on the 4th or 5th day of the operation. The next control is usually done 2 weeks after the operation.
Prominent ear surgery is a reliable aesthetic operation that offers a more aesthetic and proportional appearance to the person. On the 3rd day of this operation, the person can take a shower provided that they do not use very hot water. We do not recommend showering with hot water after any operation, as high-temperature baths will overstimulate the skin and pose a possible risk of bleeding. After resting for 2 days, the day of the operation and the next day, if they are working in a job that does not require much physical effort, they can return to their work provided that they continue to wear the headband.
Why Is A Hair Band Worn After Prominent Ear Plastic Surgery?
This question has multiple answers. First of all, the hair band is essential for the newly formed cartilage to adapt to its new shape. After the operation, the cartilage tends to return to its original shape due to its structure, which can force the sutures at some point. However, the new shape supported by the headband will prevent the seams from being strained.
Another reason is the possibility of the arm hitting the ears, especially when collecting hair during the day. The hair band is the savior here, as it will hurt the person, even if it is for a moment. Another reason is that a wrong turn or head movement, especially while sleeping, causes the cartilage structure to curl, which is a situation that we never want to happen, especially right after prominent ear surgery. For this reason, it is essential to wear the hair band for an average of 1 month after the operation.
